The Other Side of the Screen
Tom Hunter | March 23 2012

On Tuesday 27th March Earth 2 Hub’s Frank Da Silva will be a guest panellist at Hello Outernet a discussion and networking event on Augmented Reality technologies in the art, cultural and creative industries.

There’s something deeply exciting about the way new visual browsing technologies are allowing us to overlay all kinds of data on to real world environments via the screens of our smartphones and tablets, and it’s not surprising that the world of advertising has been one of the first to recognise the emergent opportunities for this new media.

While some may question any medium where advertisers are amongst the first to rush in, we might suggest that this is actually a very good thing indeed because clearly Augmented Reality apps offer fantastic opportunities for both engagement and deeper behaviorial change. Or, to put it another way, perhaps AR apps are the perfect medium for visualising the possibilities of an Earth 2.0 operating system?

Frank will be in conversation with Tamara Roukaerts, Head of Marketing for augmented reality company Aurasma, and Simon Ings, Editor of Arc, the magazine of new future fact and fiction from New Scientist.

The event is hosted by arts & culture website London Calling and will be chaired by Earth 2 Hub contributor and Arthur C. Clarke Award director, Tom Hunter

This is a free event, and tickets can be reserved via Eventbrite here.
